We love turning to our friends for recommendations—the people with a perspective, an expertise, and something to say. The ones who always know the best new spot, the hidden gem, or the thing worth trying. So, we’re opening up their recs to the world.
I’ve owned a pair of Sabahs for years, long before I met Mickey Ashmore, the brand’s founder. But when we finally crossed paths last summer on a fun shoot in Amagansett, I wasn’t surprised to find that he’s just as interesting, thoughtful, and well-traveled as the brand he’s built. What Mickey has created with Sabah feels like a true extension of himself, from the shoes to the spaces to the experiences. It’s rare to see a brand so naturally and seamlessly aligned with its founder, but everything he touches has that personal, magnetic quality that draws people in. He also has wildly good taste in food and travel, I’ve followed along just to bookmark his recs. This month, I’m thrilled to have him as our guest curator, sharing his world with you.
My name is Mickey Ashmore – I’m often referred to as the Sabah Dealer, which is a fun way of saying - I’m the guy behind Sabah, a brand that collaborates with craftspeople around the world and is most known for our handmade shoes we call Sabahs. Originally from Texas, I’ve been living in New York City for 13 years now, and it is definitely home! Follow along on Instagram @thesabahdealer

A go-to spot for any occasion
I’ve been to Bar Oliver more times than I’d like to admit over the last 90 days… but the reality is, it never misses, and I love being a regular. Bar Oliver, a Spanish-inspired wine & vermouth bar with a full dinner menu, has become my go-to spot for a lot of occasions. And it has a lot going for it: in my opinion, one of the best steaks in NYC; excellent ambience whether you’re sitting side-by-side under the awning outside, saddled up to the bar, or tucked into a booth in the back; and real, warm, proper hospitality - I always leave feeling good! Let’s not forget – almost every bite on that menu is A+ … the pintxos, the tortilla, the fries. Buen Provecho!

Bagels with Bezi
Having lived in Turkey for a few years, and spent a lot of time in the Middle East, I developed a fondness for Labneh, whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner, so I was pretty happy to discover this delicious Labneh brand: Bezi. Based in NYC and made in Turkey (just like Sabah), their product is creamy, spreadable, and so damn enjoyable to eat. And it seems you can find it at just about every quality grocer in New York City. It can be used in a lot more recipes & eating situations than you can imagine too… Bagels with Bezi, anyone!?

Sabah Radio #09: “For An Afternoon Party”
We have a pretty big catalog of Sabah playlists, and this is one of the most popular for good reason: it’s versatile & energetic. A mashup of tunes from around the globe, it works if you’re hosting an afternoon party as suggested, or cooking on a Sunday, or reading the newspaper and hanging out, or wanting to set the mood. Enjoy!
